What are REITs? Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are companies that own and operate a portfolio of income-producing real estate. In 2002, the first REIT CapitaLand Mall Trust was listed on the Singapore stock market. It remained the only REIT on the Straits Times Index (STI) all the way until 2014 when Ascendas REIT joined in.
